Based on the novel “A Vow To Cherish” by Deborah Raney
What do marriage vows really mean when life brings unimaginable change?
Vows is a deeply heartfelt and inspiring drama that follows the journey of John and Ellen Brighton, two people whose love story begins with joy, faith, and a future full of promise. Their marriage is built on devotion, family, laughter, and a shared belief that God is at the center of their lives. But when Ellen is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, the foundation of their world is shaken. The vows they once spoke with confidence, “for better or worse… in sickness and in health… as long as life shall last”, take on a weight they never could have understood as newlyweds.
As John and Ellen navigate the emotional terrain of memory loss, family upheaval, and the redefining of love, Vows reveals both the heartbreak and the unexpected beauty found in the hardest seasons of life. With moments of warmth, humor, spiritual depth, and honest struggle, this is a story that explores what it truly means to love sacrificially when the cost is high and the road is uncertain.
Vows is ultimately a story of faith under fire, of family, and of a love that chooses to stay. It invites readers to witness a powerful journey—a journey that will resonate with anyone who has ever loved deeply, faced suffering, or asked where God is when life breaks apart.
Tender, poignant, and filled with hope, Vows reminds us that even when memories fade, love can endure.
Vows was written on commission for Worldwide Pictures and produced into the film A Vow to Cherish. Because of changes demanded by Worldwide Pictures to make the film “less Christian” Coleman and Carel left the project and removed their names from the final film.
